~ Reading With LUMINOSITY & IGNITION by a Little CANDLELIGHT! ~

Please welcome Stacy McWilliams today with her novels LUMINOSITY and IGNITION! Let's find out more about them...

LUMINOSITY ~

Jasmine Johnstone's life was relatively normal until she was forced to live with the Stevenson family. As she stayed she found she had no choice but to battle mythical creatures. Strengths she never knew she possessed began to surface, surprising those around her. Her only chance of surviving the rising tide of evil was Nathan Stevenson. Could she really trust him as he fought against his love for her? With the world against them and time running out, would their love be enough to defeat demons? (204 pages)

IGNITION ~

Life has never been easy for Jasmine Johnstone, but failing for Nathan Stevenson brings a whole new level of difficulty. Since she arrived at his home he's blown hot and cold with her, turned against her and revealed a deadly threat. He is sworn to kill her, and fights against his love for her more than ever, but he knows he can't live without her.
As they run from monsters, and each other, can their love survive?

Time begins to run out and with new friends and enemies in the strangest places, will they learn who to trust in time?

With their love stronger than ever, but forces pulling them apart, is love enough to keep them together or will Nathan's parents succeed in pulling them apart? (214 pages)

But first...a little CANDLELIGHT (prequel novella)...

CANDLELIGHT ~

Life was full of nothing but darkness for Nathan Stevenson until Jasmine appeared in his life. She brought his innermost desires to the surface. She burned her way through to his heart to become embedded in his soul. He knew she was dangerous but would she break down his wall as he dreamed of her touch and fought against the impulse to protect her? Would their love be enough to defeat his demons? Was he strong enough to resist her or would her light burn irrevocably? (95 pages)

EXCERPT ~

School passed in a blur and that night, I spent my time catching up on all the work I had missed. The following day, an opportunity presented itself to me and I couldn’t resist getting my message across to that **cker.

James walked a little ahead of me during class time. It looked as if he headed to the library. He didn’t notice me as I looped around the corridor and caught him before he entered, pushing him into a disused office. I slammed him full force up against the wall and put my arm over his throat. I allowed my hands to morph into claws, holding them at a vein in his throat as fury pulsed through me.

I froze him with my powers. I could feel his powers trying to find a way around mine. I brushed them aside, as though they were no more than a fly in my face. Demon power raced through me and I stood tall before spitting out, “I know what you did and I know what you are trying to do. You won’t succeed. For every single time you try, I will ruin something you care about. You are not getting away with this; I will make sure of it…”

I broke off and turned my hand back to normal before I punched him full force in the nose. I relished the sound of the bone breaking. He would heal it in seconds, though he wouldn’t be able to get rid of the blood from Demon sight. Strolling towards the door, I called over my shoulder,

“Mop yourself up, you disgusting piece of filth.”

~ THE PRISONER OF SILVERWOOD CASTLE Will Keep You Captive! ~

Returning today I have Marie Treanor with her latest release, THE PRISONER OF SILVERWOOD CASTLE. She's treating us to an excerpt...

Excerpt~

From the corner of this room, a narrower set of stairs led upward. I followed them, coming to yet another door, also of iron, but with a small square hole cut in it and covered by a grill. Since the grill was just above my eye level, I couldn’t see in.

I pushed at the door, but it remained determinedly shut.

“Whose dream is this anyway?” I said aloud. “Open.” I pushed again, harder, but the door was clearly locked. “Damn.”

Inside, something clanked, like metal against stone. I shivered with delight. Clanking chains! This was much better.

“Damn what or whom?” enquired a deep, male voice from within, in perfect English.

A thrill ran through my bones from my toes up. “This door,” I said. “It won’t open.”

The chains, or whatever they were, clanked again.

“Perhaps you could unlock it for me?” I said hopefully.

“Sadly not. I don’t have the key.”

I frowned. “You mean you’re locked inside? Or is there another way out?”

“There’s always a way out.”

“Oh.” I set down my candle, meaning to take off my shoes and stand on top of them to try to see through the grill. “Who are you?”

There was a pause. “Kasimir,” said the voice, as my candle shone on a low stool on the far side of the landing. “Who are you?”

“Guin,” I said, placing the stool by the door and standing on it to peer through the grill. Inside was pitch-dark, so I bent and retrieved my candle.

“Just Guin?” Metal clanked again as I raised my candle to the grill.

A young man in a torn shirt and faded trousers with holes at both knees sat on the edge of a truckle bed, hands raised against the pale light I shone on him. He seemed very large for the tiny room, but otherwise, I couldn’t see much more than a mop of shaggy blonde hair and two big, if slender hands with chains dangling from both wrists. He lowered them slowly to reveal a lean, fine-boned face with glittering blue eyes, lips parted, perhaps in surprise. He was handsome enough to make even my determinedly hard heart beat faster. Dreams could be very pleasant…

On the other hand, manacles bound his wrists, a thick chain running between them and up to a bolt in the wall above him.

“Goodness,” I said, impressed and appalled all at once. “I really did hear clanking chains. You’re a prisoner.”

“Yes. Are you?”

“Lord, no.”

He stood, tugging at the chains so that he could take a step nearer the door. My heart lurched, but the chains pulled him up short. Even in the dim light, his wrists looked red and raw.

“Oh dear,” I said. “I’ll bring you ointment for your wrists.”

He peered at the grill, leaning his head from side to side as if trying to see me better. “You will? Why?”

“They look sore.”

He stepped back and glanced at them. “I suppose they are.” He sounded vaguely surprised. “Are you my new keeper?”
“Your keeper?” The phrase sounded odd; perhaps it was the translation. “No. I’m the duchess’s sister. Why are you in here? What did you do?”

He seemed to think about that. “I don’t know that I did anything.”

Blurb ~

Dead men don't tell tales. They wail them from the top of the tallest tower.

Darke of Night, Book 2

Lady Guinevere (Guin) Harvey would much rather be writing gothic tales of intrigue and adventure than dancing attendance on her sister, the newly married Duchess of Silberwald. Until they arrive at Silberwald Castle, a place of enchanting perfection—and gothic shadows.

Ghostly groans and clanking chains lead Guin through ancient, misshapen passages to one of the castle's many mysteries: a cell where the odd but charming Kasimir is kept chained like an animal. He could be a figment of her vivid dreams, the ghost of a dead, mad prince, or just a political prisoner no one wants to talk about.

Desperate to discover what beast is howling such soul-chilling cries, Guin summons the medium Barbara Darke. But by the time Barbara arrives, Guin can no longer distinguish dream from reality, friend from enemy. Even with all Barbara's unique talents, they have to face new dangers before they finally discover the terrifying truth of Silberwald Castle.

Warning: Gives new meaning to falling madly in love…

~ You'll be Happy You Stumbled Upon STUMBLE STONES! ~

Please welcome Marilyn Baron, author of STUMBLE STONES, a novel released today by The Wild Rose Press! Let's find out a little more about her...

What is the best thing you’ve learned about writing and/or the publishing business?

Of all the authors I’ve interviewed, the best and most universal advice I’ve ever received is “Finish the book.” You can always revise and improve a manuscript but you can’t fix a blank page. I also recommend joining a writer’s group. I’m in Georgia Romance Writers and the friendships and support you receive are invaluable.

Yes! Or as an English friend of mine would say, "Finish the damn book!" What is something you struggle with when you write?

I’m great at beginnings and endings. The “sagging middle” often poses a problem. I love to write dialogue, I love setting and description but “show, don’t tell,” is a skill I need to improve. I also like to change POV within a scene, which is a no-no, although Nora Roberts does it successfully.

Oh, yes. Nora Roberts Syndrome. I suffer from that, too. Give us a brief glimpse at your road to publication.

I’ve always wanted to be a writer. I started out writing humorous paranormal short stories for a small press specializing in science fiction, supernatural, horror & urban fantasy, thriller and mainstream. My stories are about angels and devils, love and death, weddings and funerals—happy endings guaranteed. Then I self-published a women’s fiction novel, a shopping-related suspense tale and a musical about Alzheimer’s called Memory Lane with my sister, a Florida artist. I submitted a manuscript to The Wild Rose Press, and my novel, Under the Moon Gate, was published in 2013. My new novel, Stumble Stones, which will be released August 19, will be my 11th book with that publisher. AmazonEncore re-released Sixth Sense, Book 1 of my psychic suspense series, last September. I write in a variety of genres, from humorous coming-of-middle-age women’s fiction to historical romantic thrillers and suspense to paranormal. You can find out more about what I write on my Web site at www.marilynbaron.com.

Do you have a job outside of writing? What is it and how does it mesh with your writing?

I majored in Journalism (Public Relations sequence) and minored in English (Creative Writing) in college and I have been a corporate writer and editor my entire career, first with AT&T and then as head of my own PR agency, so fiction is just a different kind of writing.

Share with us a little about your family. Married? Kids? Pets?

I live in Roswell, Georgia, a suburb north of Atlanta, with my husband and we have two daughters and a son-in-law who also live in Atlanta. We had a Bichon Frise named Doogie, and she lived for about 19 years. I feature her a lot in my books because I miss her. I love to travel, and often feature destinations I’ve visited in my books. I lived in Florence, Italy, for six months so I use Florence as a setting in a number of my books. Under the Moon Gate was set in contemporary and WW II Bermuda because I love Bermuda and have been there about 10 times. I wrote Sixth Sense, which is partially set in Sydney, Australia, after I traveled to Australia and New Zealand. Stumble Stones is set in Rome, Berlin and on a Scandinavian cruise, all places I’ve visited or experiences I’ve had. The Widows’ Gallery and Killer Cruise are set on a Mediterranean cruise, which I recently took. I set some of my books in Florida since I’m from Miami, went to college at University of Florida and have a beach condo in Florida.

Okay. Now, just for fun-

If you owned a CB radio what would your "handle" be?

My handle was “The Baronness,” when I used to broadcast the audio news to AT&T employees and my promotional poster featured me with a CB radio and a hard hat.

Awesome handle! What CD is in your CD player right now?

The CD I listen to in the car is the soundtrack to our musical Memory Lane. The songs are catchy so I can’t get the music out of my head. My sister and I hope that one day it will be produced on stage. I love music from the ’40s because I’m fascinated by World War II and it’s a theme I often use in my books.

Name your favorite children's story.

Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder was what inspired me to become a writer.

It's amazing how many writers say that! What was your nickname growing up or now?

Perry. My father called me Perry after Perry Como because he liked that singer and he sang like Perry Como.

What one thing (modern convenience) you could not live without?

A hair dryer.

I hear you! I don't know how pioneer women lived without them! What are your three favorite smells?

That’s a funny question, because I was born without a sense of smell, although I do have a sense of taste. I discovered this when my sisters and brother and I came home from school one day and they said, “Oh, we’re having XXXX for dinner,” and I asked how they could tell. They could smell the food, but I couldn’t. I can’t smell anything. I’ve never smelled perfume or flowers. It came in handy when I was changing diapers while my kids were babies. Once my kitchen caught on fire and I was standing there in the smoke-filled room looking the other way and I couldn’t smell the smoke so luckily someone was home and told me to get out of the kitchen. When I went to a factory outside of Denver where they make tea, I walked into a room where they stored the peppermint. Everyone else had to leave immediately because the smell was so overpowering. For the first and only time I could smell it and I wanted to stay in there. Peppermint is one of my favorite flavors.

Very interesting! I've never had that answer before! Now that we've found out a little bit about you, let's find out more about Stumble Stones...

Blurb ~

Hallelujah Weiss, writer for the steamy sudser As the Planet Spins, gets a second chance at love when she flees to Italy to get over her recent divorce, courtesy of her cheating ex-husband’s credit card. A woman scorned, Hallelujah has sworn off men and is determined to reinvent herself. The new Hallelujah is eager to live life on the edge, more like Polly, a character she writes and idolizes.

Lonely Berlin hedge fund manager Alexander Stone, a number cruncher who puts his faith in numerical data, still believes in destiny, despite the fact his fiancée just dumped him. Always a man with a plan, Alexander did not plan on Hallelujah.

After a chance encounter on a flight to Rome, the unlikely pair faces danger when they team up to return to their rightful owner a stash of WW II vintage jewels. The hidden diamonds hold the key to an unsolved mystery and a promise of love.

Excerpt ~

Life was better in Business Class, especially when your cheating ex-husband was paying for it. Hallelujah couldn’t wait until Lloyd got the bill—for the airline ticket, the set of top-of-the-line TUMI luggage, the fashionable, Italian-worthy wardrobe, a two-week stay at a first-class hotel in Florence, an expensive day of pampering at the hotel spa, dinner in the city’s finest restaurant, and front row seats to the Il Volo concert. It’s not like Lloyd Evans couldn’t afford it. It would hardly make a dent in the bastard’s bank account.

Her short-term plan was to spend as much of Lloyd’s money as she could before his skanky secretary/fiancĂ©e Olivia Brewster got her greedy little hands on it. Polly would be proud of me.

But she wasn’t Polly. Polly lived life on the wild side, and she had a vindictive streak. Hallie Evans was practical. She believed in playing it safe and paying her own way. But she deserved this final fling. She had scraped together the last of her savings, and she would use those funds when Lloyd’s credit card was tapped out. Then she would go back to the single life and the single paycheck and try not to dwell on how much her ex had hurt and humiliated her. But right now, Polly was in the pilot’s seat. And, from now on, Hallie was determined to live life on the edge, just like Polly.

Settling into her roomy Magnifica seat, she signaled the Alitalia flight attendant for another amaretto sour before the plane took off. Getting properly sloshed mid-air was a strategic and recent addendum to the plan. Oh, and part of her plan was to swear off men.

What are Stumble Stones?

Stumble Stones is a real project. German artist Gunter Demnig has placed five thousand of these brass plaques—known as Stolpersteine or “stumble stones,” cobblestone-sized Holocaust memorial stones—in Berlin and some fifty thousand of them in eighteen countries in Europe.

Praise for STUMBLE STONES

“Modern characters find themselves thrown into a mystery that spans generations, and to discover the answers, they have to look to the past. Marilyn Baron perfectly blends that laugh-out-loud humor of a new romance with the heartbreaking story of a family torn apart by the Holocaust. Touching and beautifully written with marvelous attention to setting and history.”

~ More LINGERING TOUCH! ~

Cassandra Chandler was on earlier in the week with her book, LINGERING TOUCH. Now she returns with one great excerpt...

Excerpt ~

Heat hit her back as the room exploded into fire behind her. Jazz heard the window shatter. The next thing she knew, Finn had pulled her against his chest and was rolling them across the bed to the floor.

“What the hell?” she yelled.

“Molotov cocktail. We need to go out the back.”

The curtains were on fire, flames dropping onto the carpet. Some smoldered out. Others caught.

“Shouldn’t we try to stop it?”

As she said the words, another projectile flew into the room, landing on the bed. The sheets caught instantly as the accelerant poured over the mattress.

“Shit!”

Finn leapt forward, blocking her body with his, pushing her toward the bathroom.

“Wait.”

Jazz ducked under his arm so she could grab her wallet, phone, and keys from the nightstand. He took her hand and pulled her toward the bathroom, both crouching low to stay beneath the smoke. Finn slammed the door shut as soon as they were in the smaller room, then rolled up a towel and tucked it along the crack at the floor.

There was a small window above the sink. She could fit through easily. She wasn’t sure about him.

“Finn...”

“It’ll be fine.”

He jumped up onto the sink, then opened the window and punched out the screen. He scanned the area outside. “I don’t think they’re back here. They might have taken off to avoid the cops, but we can’t assume anything.”

“Is it those guys from the bar?”

“Probably,” Finn said. “Come on.” He helped her up onto the counter. “Be sure to check the SUV before you get into it.”

As if he wouldn’t be with her.

“You go first,” she said.

“Jazz—”

“I will balk. I swear to fucking God, I will kick and scream and fight you on this. I’m not going through that window until I’m sure you can fit through it. You go first.”

He stared at her for a moment.

“We’re wasting time,” she said.

The memory of his touch has never left her heart. . .or her body.

The Summer Park Psychics, Book 3

Finn Connelly can see the past by touching objects, even read people's thoughts. This power allows him to be the best private investigator in Summer Park. Until his abilities spiral out of control, leaving his thoughts and emotions inextricably entangled with those of others.

The only one who can help him regain control is the last person he trusts. Jazz Zhou, the woman who broke his heart.

Jazz is still reeling from nearly losing her closest friends to a serial killer-a man she brought into their lives. When she learns Finn is psychically bound to the ghost of one of the killer's victims, she grabs the chance to atone for past mistakes.

As their investigation takes them to the killer's hometown, they realize the threat to Jazz's friends isn't over-and neither is their relationship. But the more Finn uses his powers, the more he loses himself. And soon even Jazz's touch might not be enough to help him claw his way out of a murderer's memories.

Warning: Contains a heroine with a take-no-prisoners attitude and a hunky private eye with a touch that will leave you begging for more. And alligators. Lots of alligators.

Author Bio ~

Cassandra Chandler has studied folklore and mythology for her entire life and been accused of taking fairy tales a bit too seriously. Raised in a household where tarot readings and viewing auras were considered mundane, she spends her time writing and trying to appear normal. At least the writing is working out.

Her romances range from sweet to scorching, set in extraordinary worlds and driven by characters searching for a deep and lasting love. She has always seen the starry sky as a destination rather than a matte painting, though her primary residence is on earth.

~ COURAGE for FREE! And Who Couldn't Use Some Of That? ~

COURAGE, the first book in The Dreughan series from Lena North, is free on Amazon from today, August 8, through Wednesday, August 10th!

Blurb ~

Vilda lives in a muddy little corner of the world, in the time of the war that never ends. The war between the Waterfolk and the Dreughan. She is different where conformity is important, breaks rules in a world where punishments are given freely, and she pays for it. If it weren't for her best friend Troy, she would have no one.

Then Vilda saves the life of a dragon and shortly after that, things are spiraling out of control. The Waterfolk attack, searching for an unclaimed girl, and Vilda has to escape through the night together with Troy and the only other girl the Waterfolk could be looking for – their former best friend, Susannah.
Soon, they find themselves in Dragoncourt, the stronghold of the Dreughan, where a prophecy predicts that the war will finally come to an end when the beautiful Dreughan prince has claimed another royal from the end of the world.

It seems as if Vilda is the girl in the prophecy, and she might be, but she also has a strong link to a young man with black hair and eyes as blue as the summer skies – the prince’s cousin, Drake...

Author Bio ~

The proper way to put it here would probably be to describe how I love to play with our two big dogs, adore my fantastic daughters and how much I love to read.

Another way would be to use my imagination and then I would be a super powerful warrior woman, think Xena the warrior princess (though with less tacky clothes). Or when I think of it, maybe I'm actually more of a Hercule Poirot (sans the suit and moustache). Or maybe I'm like Aragorn, strong and cool and then I might get to meet Gandalf! Or I could be Bella's pretty cousin and snap Jacob up in a second (yeah, I'm so not team Edward), or wait, maybe I could be like one of
them heroines in historical novels who swoon all the time. I've always wanted to swoon...

Well, I guess you get how my mind is working (or not working, some say). Anyways, I like to write. Stories, adventures, romantic and happy stuff mixed up with sorrow and hardship, and bit of laughter here and there because the way I see it – life is way too short to go around feeling grumpy.

REASON
The Dreughan #2

Blurb ~

Everyone knows that Susannah is a good girl. Beautiful, accomplished, calm and polite. What they don’t know is that she’s also another girl, one who is hot-tempered, brave – and an expert at throwing knives.

The three friends have settled in Dragoncourt and Susannah is happier than she’s ever been. Or she would be, if it wasn’t for the prophecy that predicts the prosperous times coming after the war that never ends. They have started to suspect that the next piece of the prophecy predicts that Sannah is bound by fate to Kee, the beautiful Prince of Dragoncourt. The golden one. The only one who acutely dislikes Susannah.

They travel with a group of Dreughan to the Settlement at the Mountain Tip, hoping to find out what happened to Michael, the young man who helped them escape from the Waterfolk. They’ve heard that he didn’t die after all, and they’re hoping to find him in the settlement. Suddenly life is becoming more and more confusing to Susannah. Life at the Mountain Tip is familiar and safe, but Kee isn’t who she thought he was, and she starts to realize that maybe she isn't a settled girl anymore.

Then disaster strikes and Sannah has to let go of the good girl. She has to lie and deceive her way straight into Pantano, the stronghold of the Waterfolk, and she’ll have to do bad things in the name of love and fury.

In the end, she has to decide, is she the good girl or the wild one?
Or can she be both?

JOY
The Dreughan #3

Blurb ~

Troy finally has what he always wanted, a place where he belongs. Vilda and Sannah are like sisters to him, and through them, he has a place in their Dreughan family. There is nothing he wouldn't do for his family, he’s already killed for them and he would do it again, without remorse.

The Waterfolk called for a meeting to discuss how to end the war that never ends, and Troy is asked to be a part of a small group that goes with Brock, the General of the Dreughan, to the negotiations. He's happy to be chosen, to be trusted, but he also has another reason for going. They suspect that Valerian of the Waterfolk could be his half-brother, and Troy is eager to take a look at the man. This turns out to be more complicated than he thought, because the Waterfolk seem to recognize him immediately, and neither Troy nor his family can understand why.

As a part of the negotiation, it is decided that a group of Dreughan will visit Pantano, the main village of the Waterfolk, and Troy is going with them. It soon becomes clear to him that, whether he likes it or not, he has more than one family.

Troy’s warrior friend Mal and Drake's sister Rinna are also part of the group and they’re all happy to be in the beautiful village, but strange things are happening, things that no one can explain. Slowly they start to suspect that someone wants to keep the war going.
Then Troy has to do everything he can to protect his family, his families. If he succeeds, then it would help ending the war, but it looks like he will have to pay a high price.
